The Role:

We are offering an exciting opportunity to begin your engineering career within a friendly, supportive, multi disciplinary Property Services team of over 300 professionals.

You will gain experience across Hampshire’s large and diverse property portfolio, including schools, offices, libraries, care homes and countryside sites. You will also have opportunities to visit construction sites for surveys, inspections and meetings, giving you a full understanding of how engineered solutions are implemented.

What you’ll do:

As a Building Services Design Engineer, you will support the design and delivery of mechanical and electrical engineering services for a diverse range of buildings across Hampshire including schools, libraries, offices, care homes, country parks and more. You will gain hands on design and project management experience working on refurbishment, maintenance, and new build projects, helping to improve public buildings and make a meaningful impact across the county.

Alongside practical workplace learning, you will complete a Level 3 Building Services Design Technician Apprenticeship, developing skills in digital modelling, CAD/Revit, engineering calculations, site surveying and sustainable building technologies. You will be supported throughout by experienced engineers who will help guide your professional development.

This role supports Hampshire County Council’s commitment to sustainable design, climate change response and the journey to net zero, and you will be introduced to modern design approaches, digital tools and renewable technologies.

What we’re looking for:

Applicants should have GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, including Maths and English at Grade B/6 or higher, and Science. They must be good communicators, able to manage their workload, and confident using IT, with a willingness to learn tools such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP and Microsoft Office. A proactive attitude, motivation to learn, and the ability to travel within Hampshire are essential.

Desirable qualities include Level 3 qualifications, a full or in‑progress driving licence, interest in engineering or building services, and ambition to pursue further technical study. An understanding of sustainability, strong numerical and analytical skills, attention to detail, problem‑solving ability, and any practical or technical experience are also beneficial.
