Role Description: Mechanical / Tooling Design Engineer
As a Mechanical / Tooling Design Engineer, you will deliver robust design solutions for tooling, jigs, fixtures, and mechanical components, ensuring they meet performance, safety, and customer requirements. You will be involved across the full design lifecycle, from concept through to detailed design and implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop tooling, jigs, fixtures, and mechanical equipment
- Produce concept and detailed designs to meet technical and customer requirements
- Identify and resolve engineering challenges with practical solutions
- Evaluate product performance, reliability, and safety
- Modify and optimise designs based on testing, feedback, and constraints
- Define project scope, budgets, and timelines
- Manage risk and opportunity throughout the design process
- Produce technical documentation, reports, and design outputs
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support less experienced engineers
Requirements
- Degree (BEng or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Experience in tooling or mechanical design (e.g. valves, pressure vessels, structures, lifting equipment)
- Strong understanding of design codes, standards, and safety requirements
- Proficiency in 3D CAD (e.g. Siemens NX or similar)
- Familiarity with PLM systems (e.g. Teamcenter)
- Knowledge of engineering analysis tools (e.g. ANSYS, ABAQUS, MathCAD)
- Understanding of materials and manufacturing processes
- Experience managing full design lifecycles
- Eligible for, or able to obtain, security clearance
