Vehicle Mechanical Design Engineer
Warwick – Hybrid | £40,000 – £55,000 DOE
VIQU is working with a well-established engineering organisation within the specialist vehicle sector to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in cab interior systems and occupant-focused design. This role will focus on the design and development of vehicle cab interior components, working from concept through to production, ensuring regulatory compliance and manufacturability throughout.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design and develop cab interior systems and components including dash and trim panels, door systems, floor systems and mats, seating and anchorage systems
• Produce 3D CAD models, assemblies, detailed drawings and BOMs
• Select appropriate materials based on performance, durability and regulatory requirements
• Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure DFM/DFA principles are applied
• Support tooling reviews including A/B surface considerations
• Ensure compliance with relevant vehicle and occupant safety regulations
• Support validation, testing and product introduction activities
• Contribute to engineering change management processes
Key Requirements:
• HNC/HND or Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering (essential)
• Previous experience designing vehicle cab interiors or similar engineered interior systems
• Strong material knowledge including plastics (ABS, PP, GRP), rubber, foam, fabrics and sheet metal fabrication
• Experience with manufacturing processes such as injection moulding, vacuum forming, compression moulding and 3D printing
• Understanding of tooling requirements and surface finish considerations
• Knowledge of ECE R29 (Cab Strength) and ECE R14, R16, R17 (Occupant Protection & Seating Safety)
• Strong 3D CAD experience (Solid Edge preferred, or SolidWorks/Creo equivalent)
• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving ability
