We are currently looking for an Optical Design Engineer Intern to join our Raman spectroscopy R&D team for a 12-month placement.

In this Optical Design Engineer Intern position, you'll be embedded in the multi-disciplinary R&D team based at the Harwell Scientific Campus, which is focused on developing world-beating Raman Spectroscopy systems such as the Vaya Raw Material ID system which won an R&D 100 award and demonstrates out patented SORS technology.

This opportunity will give you a mix of design, experimentation and analysis skills, specifically with lasers, CCDs and Raman Spectroscopy systems, in our dedicated laser labs, working alongside a team of dedicated and enthusiastic scientists and engineers.

Qualifications

As this is an Intern position, you need to be studying a course in an applicable field at University and will be returning to that same course upon completion of the internship.No prior experience required; may have up to 2 years of relevant experience.Excellent record keeping, attention to detail, teamwork and communication skills is key.

Any of the following skills would also be desirable:

Experience in data collection, analysis & visualizationExperience in building and designing laser/optical breadboards/experimentsDocumenting research and informing application/product design decisionsOptical Design in ZemaxAnalysis using python/R/MatlabKnowledge/experience of opticsKnowledge/experience with Raman spectroscopy
