As part of our continued growth, we are looking for a Lead Civil Design Engineer to join our design function in Glasgow. This role is a key part of our multi‑disciplinary engineering team and will focus on delivering high‑quality civil and structural design solutions for a range of Water and Wastewater projects.
The Role
As Lead Civil Design Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and producing discipline‑specific engineering design deliverables. You will work on the design and assessment of structures commonly found within Water and Wastewater environments, including:
- Concrete plinths and base slabs
- Retaining walls
- Tanks, channels and flumes
- Structures subject to static and dynamic loading
You will also ensure all design work considers ground conditions, buildability, demolition requirements and overall construction methodology.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership on design and optioneering phases to turn client concepts into workable solutions
- Liaise with internal teams and external clients to establish and refine project requirements
- Undertake site surveys and gather technical information to support robust design development
- Prepare civil and structural design calculations and reports
- Conduct surveys and advise on potential risks or technical issues
- Manage your own projects from initial design through to completion
- Coordinate and oversee design drawings produced by the CAD/BIM team
- Deliver high‑quality technical outputs that meet required standards
- Prepare and maintain Design Risk Assessments in line with CDM Regulations 2015
- Support site teams during construction with technical queries, problem solving and design reviews
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:
- 2–3 years of civil or structural design experience, preferably within engineering or construction
- A strong understanding of structural theory and practical problem‑solving skills
- Experience designing in accordance with British Standards and/or Eurocodes
- An accredited degree in Civil Engineering or similar (desirable)
- Excellent communication skills and a positive, collaborative approach
- The ability to work independently while managing multiple concurrent projects
